Business History Society of Japan

The Business History Society of Japan (BHSJ) is an academic, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to facilitate all aspects of research on business history and its related fields.

The first major gathering of Japanese business historians occurred in 1960, followed by the official founding of BHSJ in 1964. The inaugural meeting was held in Kyoto, and the first president was Professor Yoshitaro Wakimura, emeritus professor of Tokyo University. The current president is Professor Takeshi Abe of Osaka University (since January 2009).

BHSJ is comprised of 871 members (as of September 2011) mainly from Japanese universities and colleges with business history faculties or departments. Among its members are also independent scholars, archivists and corporate sponsors.
